At the Pasadena City Council meeting titled August 24, 2026, members approved a staff recommendation to allocate $924,000 for a larger, approximately 5,000-square-foot police helicopter hangar, passing 7–1. Discussion covered added site preparation, foundation, fire-suppression, and accessibility requirements, as well as concerns about cost escalation and the timing of the information provided to council. The council also unanimously adopted an ordinance assigning a non-exclusive solid-waste collection franchise from Robert M. Arsenian to Southland Environmental Services, Inc. Separately, public comments raised ongoing Pasadena Water and Power and civilian workforce contract negotiations, but no bargaining agreement was approved in the meeting. A congressional update cited federal investments including $250,000 for Metro bus-stop improvements and approximately $1.31 million for the Verdugo Fire Communications Center.
The council received a progress and budget update on the Central Library renovation, a construction-manager-at-risk project. Staff reported a current construction contract of $165.7 million, two change orders totaling $714,000, more than $1 million in local economic impact through June 30, and $15.9 million in identified future commitments to local vendors; staff also said additional trade packages were being rebid. The council discussed improving local hiring and tracking workforce outcomes, but took no new procurement vote on the library project. Members also reviewed an Urban Land Institute report on redevelopment of the 710 stub and endorsed its guiding themes; governance options and future development planning remain under discussion.
