At the Pasadena Municipal Services Committee meeting on October 21, 2026, staff presented a traffic-safety update and an electric-distribution supply-chain update. No procurement awards or spending votes were recorded. For traffic safety, staff reported completed street-safety measures and upcoming work, including a construction RFP for two rapid-flashing-beacon crosswalks at Green Street and Chester and at Michigan. Committee members discussed staffing and funding for traffic enforcement, safety projects, and community outreach, as well as potential speed-reduction measures and pilot projects.

The supply-chain presentation identified remaining constraints on electric-system equipment, including reclosers, specialized transformers, high-voltage breakers, cable accessories, and transmission equipment. Staff cited supplier Wesco, Wource, and DNW Electric, and reported that GMW quoted lead times of about 60–70 weeks for Trident and Viper equipment; large power transformers and transmission/substation breakers may have lead times of up to five years. Industry estimates discussed potential cost increases of about 12% for transmission and distribution equipment and 8% for substation equipment, not as forecasts for PWP purchases. Staff said it maintains an 18–24-month rolling forecast for major distribution materials, strategic inventory, and early procurement of long-lead items; it is also coordinating with Purchasing and the City Attorney’s Office on documentation and treatment of tariff adjustments in future solicitations and contracts. Staff said it would provide the committee with inventory figures at a future meeting. Public comments also addressed the city’s clean-energy progress and requested additional projections in quarterly reporting.
