The Lee County Board of County Commissioners workshop on October 20, 2026, discussed a possible sale or transfer of county-owned boat-slip credits. Staff proposed initially offering up to 225 credits from the former Cove conservation parcel, from a total of 445 identified credits, and said Administrative Code 13-21 would need amendments before transfers could proceed. Staff recommended an Invitation to Negotiate (ITN), allowing concurrent negotiations and consideration of price and public benefits; the Board would retain discretion to accept or reject proposals. Commissioners discussed valuing the credits, directing proceeds toward water-access improvements, and recovering implementation costs. No sale was approved; staff will return with a proposal for Board consideration.
The Board also reviewed improvement scenarios for Mike Greenwell Regional Park, including agricultural and 4-H facilities and a potential event center; the amphitheater was excluded. Option 1 was estimated at about $49 million, while staff discussed using roughly $50 million in CDBG-DR funding for park improvements and returning with a version of Option 3 that expands the Option 2 improvements and considers other eligible projects for remaining funds. A separate event-center project was estimated at $120–$140 million and could potentially be funded through a voter-approved general-obligation bond, with a possible 2028 ballot and construction around 2031. Commissioners expressed support for bringing back that combined scenario, but took no vote or final funding action.
