The City of Worcester City Council met on October 20, 2026. No contracts were awarded and no vendors were selected, but the council discussed municipal contracting and infrastructure procurement. Public commenters said the custodial contractor Pro City Facility Services, which took over cleaning services at several municipal buildings in September, had reduced workers’ wages and benefits. The council unanimously adopted a resolution supporting workers’ rights and calling for fair wages, benefits, and workplace protections to be considered in city contracting and RFPs.

Councilors also focused on delays in street and sidewalk work and the related bidding process. They discussed district street-repair allocations of approximately $1.3–$1.5 million, utility-related delays, and the need to start construction earlier in the season. A motion asking the administration to accelerate bid posting and awards for street and sidewalk resurfacing, and review practices used in other communities, passed 10–1 and was referred to the Public Works Committee for further discussion. Other street-selection and project-status matters were also referred for review. Separately, the council adopted, by a 6–0 vote with five abstentions, a resolution urging voters to oppose Question 8 on cannabis legalization; this was an advocacy resolution, not a procurement decision.
