Johnston County Planning Board meeting, October 20, 2026: The board reviewed proposed revisions to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), including removal of certain agricultural provisions and zoning districts, calculating residential density using gross acreage, accessory dwelling unit standards, subdivision-review thresholds, public-facility and traffic-impact criteria, agricultural buffers, and proposed separation requirements for vape shops near new schools. The UDO public hearing was continued to October 26; the board voted to change the agenda and later approved the continuation. A resident spoke in favor of wider agricultural buffers and grandfathering existing agricultural operations.
The board denied the Powell tract subdivision request, approved the Goodling tract subdivision subject to staff-report conditions, and tabled case 2609 until the next month. A special-use-permit modification received public comment only, with no board action. On conditional zoning case 2605, a motion to recommend denial failed, leaving the board divided; the matter is to proceed to the Board of County Commissioners. The board also approved written decisions for Reedy Creek and Barrel Farm. No procurement, contract awards, or spending decisions were identified.
