Franklin County, Washington’s budget workshop on October 20, 2026 (part of the October 19–20 workshop) reviewed proposed 2027 budgets; the transcript does not capture formal votes or contract awards. Public Works outlined plans for about 60 miles of chip sealing, estimated at more than $2 million, and six miles of gravel replacement. Commissioners pressed for progress on safety pullouts, estimated at $500,000–$600,000 for two paved sites, and rock crushing, discussed as a potential $4 million investment; neither was approved in the discussion. The board also urged Public Works to pursue available grants and use road funds for matching requirements. The county discussed a reserve balance projected at $3.6 million by year-end, with a longer-term target of roughly $7–$8 million.
Information Services and the Prosecutor’s Office discussed rising software costs and a proposed $47,000 increase for Axon digital evidence management under an initial five-year agreement, as well as a case-management system replacement planned toward the end of 2027. Commissioners called for better countywide tracking of software costs and future vendor competition. Election officials said they would seek comparison bids for printing and binding while explaining their current vendor, K&H, supports time-sensitive election work. A $2,500 estimate for a bulk shredding pickup was questioned, with staff agreeing to explore alternatives. Planning and Building also discussed proposed staffing, fee changes, and funds for outside plan reviews; these were budget requests rather than approved procurements.
