The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly’s regular meeting on October 20, 2026, approved several spending and procurement items. It accepted and appropriated a $2.5 million Matanuska Health Foundation grant for refrigeration and related equipment at the Big Lake Lions Recreation Center, and approved the project scope and budget. The Assembly also accepted $81,370.89 in FEMA windstorm disaster-relief funds. Approved consent items included awarding Bid 2750C to Rosenbauer General Fire Apparatus for rescue squad apparatuses for $1,139,590; a $573,155 contract with MCG Explorer for Academy Charter High School design; and an extension of AMC Engineers’ contract through June 30, 2028, for engineering and construction-administration services. The Assembly also approved $220,624.38 in additional NSTAR utility-relocation costs. Contract-completion reports noted Orion Construction’s final amounts of $825,000 for the Gateway Visitor Center displays and exhibits and $7,425,913.14 for Central Landfill Phase One improvements. The borough manager reported approximately $386 million in grant funding for borough projects and programs, including a roughly $249 million federal grant for the Alaska Railroad’s Port MacKenzie Rail Extension.

An amendment seeking an additional $75,000–$100,000 study of the southern alternative for the Engstrom-to-Trunk connector was defeated; the Assembly retained its prior northern-route selection. The Assembly removed Resolution 26-117, concerning a data-center moratorium, from the agenda, and no moratorium or related procurement policy was adopted; officials said a future discussion with the Planning Commission was planned. A resolution requesting a post-Labor-Day school start was reconsidered but ultimately failed. Other road-service-area budget and scope changes on the consent agenda were approved.
