The Groton Board of Education Finance/Facilities Committee met on October 20, 2026, to review budget encumbrances and transfers, facilities work, and financial planning. Members discussed approximately $14 million in prior-year transfers, largely related to account cleanup and classification changes, and asked for clearer descriptions of future transfers so the Board can distinguish routine reallocations from transfers covering shortages or unplanned costs. Utility expenses, special-education accounts, solar credits, and a proposed ongoing maintenance budget were also discussed. The committee reviewed the district’s audit timeline and planned discussions of the OPEB evaluation and stop-loss coverage; no procurement-related award vote was identified.
Facilities updates included an electrical contractor quote for the manufacturing center, with staff preparing a requisition and purchase order and work expected to begin the following week. The center’s air-conditioning installation is planned for the week of November 2, funded through town CIP funds, and New England Mechanical is working on an eyewash station. Silver Petrucelli is updating pricing for the Charles Barnum roof project, which may inform a request to the Town Council for an extension or additional funding; bids for the Fitch High School entrance sidewalk are due November 2. Staff are also pursuing contractor work for a pergola at Mary Morrison School and addressing building water intrusion and maintenance needs. These projects were discussed as pending work or bids; no contract awards or bid approvals were reported.
