The City of Palm Springs Measure J Oversight Commission met on October 20, 2026 (the meeting title refers to October 15). The commission voted 7–0 to approve the Airport Commission’s request for approximately $150,000 in additional Measure J funding to replace seating throughout the Bono Concourse, gates 1–10. Staff said the full furniture package was about $650,000, compared with $500,000 previously budgeted; savings from shade structures and the airport’s Measure J reserve would cover the increase. The proposed purchase uses Keusch through an Omnia Partners cooperative agreement after the city procurement department did not accept the agreement for the earlier vendor, Vitra. The planned work includes additional charging stations, with an estimated 16–20-week lead time and installation targeted after the travel season. The commission also reviewed progress on previously budgeted project plaques; staff will coordinate proposals with the city’s existing plaque vendor, while a separate City Hall plaque concept will be discussed further.
The fiscal update reported approximately $4.7 million in first-quarter Measure J spending, including street improvements, deferred maintenance, vehicle outfitting, and community-initiated projects. Staff said roughly $9.5 million was budgeted for street improvements in FY 2026–27 and anticipated about $10 million in available funding over the next two years for commission recommendations, with infrastructure expected to be a priority. Convention center expansion and renovation design work is underway, with a stated project budget of $135 million and an owner’s-representative consultant supporting the design process; no new contract award or spending vote on that project was reported. The commission also discussed a grant-funded pedestrian and safety master plan that may lead to future Measure J funding requests.
