The City of Madison Common Council Executive Committee met on October 20, 2026. The committee received a status update on the president’s work group developing Madison Police Department body-worn-camera, video-release, use-of-deadly-force, and de-escalation policies. The work group has reviewed existing policies and consulted subject-matter experts; it plans further input in November, with a proposed policy resolution expected in December and Common Council consideration of the body-camera policy anticipated in January. Issues still under consideration include when cameras must be activated and whether to charge redaction fees for commercial video releases. No vote or procurement action was taken on this update.

The committee also discussed a draft Legistar document-accessibility policy and phased compliance with the federal web-content accessibility rule ahead of the April 24, 2027 deadline. Members raised questions about how Legistar documents and alder blogs will be covered and how compliance will be achieved; follow-up information was needed. No contracts, vendors, spending decisions, or other procurement activity were identified. The committee approved the prior meeting minutes and adjourned.
