🏥 Healthcare Grants & Funding

The Jackson County Human Services Committee met October 12, 2026, and received reports from aging services, the health department, and other county agencies. The Department on Aging reported it was awarded more than $1 million in grants for fiscal years 2027–2029 to support services for older adults, including homemaker and personal care. From January through August, the department served 221 people at home and provided more than 5,000 hours of care. WellWise Services also reported that Jackson County’s Department on Aging was selected as a grant recipient through its multi-year funding process. The committee voted to receive the agency reports; a motion to pay claims was introduced, but the transcript does not capture the outcome of that vote.

Other funding and operational updates included completed renovations to WellWise Services’ Brooklyn office, supported by an MDHHS infrastructure grant. The health department said it had used an outside contractor for plan reviews during staffing vacancies and expects to bring that work back in-house as positions are filled. No new contract award or procurement approval was reported. The state’s FY2027 budget was described as providing mostly level funding for aging services.
