The Town of Huntersville Board meeting on October 20, 2026, included an update from the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) on the Red Line and Northern Zone microtransit. The 24-mile Red Line is advancing from 15% to 30% design over the next 18–24 months, alongside environmental review; its estimated capital cost is $1.38 billion in 2024 dollars, with an indicative delivery timeline of 8–10 years under traditional design-bid-build. CATS is evaluating alternative delivery methods to potentially accelerate construction and expects to seek federal funding after completing the environmental process. HDR is under contract for design and environmental work. Microtransit has nine vehicles, including two wheelchair-accessible vehicles, and CATS reported nearly 110,000 customers served; no new transit contract award or funding vote was taken.
The Board unanimously approved two rezoning petitions and a zoning text amendment. The North Line Row rezoning includes commitments for four affordable units, applicant-funded sidewalk construction, and at least $10,000 for public art; the applicant also offered a $2,500 contribution to the Carolina Raptor Center, a wildlife certification effort, and a limit on rental units. The Second Street Village rezoning allows four additional townhomes, subject to conditions. The text amendment doubles the allowable accessory-structure area on residential lots of five acres or more. These were land-use decisions rather than Town procurement actions; no government contract award or purchasing approval was identified.
