P&Z Regular Meeting October 20 2026

The City of Seward Planning and Zoning Commission met on October 20, 2026. The commission unanimously approved Resolution 2026-015, granting Philip Zimmerman a conditional use permit to build a fourplex at 2011 Phoenix Road. Conditions include compliance with building, fire, and life-safety requirements; at least four off-street parking spaces; bear-resistant refuse containers with an enclosure; and landscaping. The applicant was not present, and no public comments were received.

The commission also unanimously approved Resolution 2026-016, as amended, recommending City Council changes to zoning code provisions governing allowed uses and conditional use permits. The amendment adds a review criterion concerning the applicant’s demonstrated ability and willingness to comply with conditions on prior city permits. Separately, staff announced an upcoming public open house for the Seward Wayfinding signage project, which is being developed with a consultant; no contract award, vendor selection, or project cost was discussed. Department budget work sessions for the next two-year cycle were also forthcoming, but no budget decisions were made at this meeting.
