The Marathon County Board of Supervisors’ adjourned organizational meeting on October 20, 2026, approved Resolution 68-26, authorizing staff to proceed with Phase Four construction of a new county highway facility in Kronenwetter. The guaranteed maximum price was stated as approximately $54.981 million, under a construction-manager-at-risk approach; the resolution passed, but not unanimously. Board discussion covered the facility’s scope, costs, equipment storage and maintenance, geothermal heating, and alternatives such as phasing or reducing the project. An amendment, also approved non-unanimously, directs the Board to develop a strategy for disposing of the existing highway property before the new facility is complete, with proceeds applied to the general fund and a goal of returning the property to the tax rolls. The meeting also approved, non-unanimously, a child support agency budget amendment recognizing additional state performance incentive funds for FY2024; no amount was stated.
The consent agenda, including an item to reclassify remaining ARPA funds against previously incurred costs for the completed Forensic Science Center, was approved. A subsequent motion to reconsider that item was defeated. The administrator said the reclassification would prevent about $400,000 in remaining federal funds from having to be returned and would free county funds for future use, subject to federal requirements. Other actions included appointing Supervisor Aaron Greiner as Infrastructure Committee chair and adopting resolutions on Operation Green Light and proposed census rules. No other contract awards or vendor selections were identified.
