The Municipal District of Taber Committee of the Whole met on October 20, 2026, to discuss planning, bylaws, and the draft 2027 operating and capital budgets. The committee deferred recommendations on the Town of Taber Southeast Area Structure Plan until the final draft is received, with transportation concerns—particularly impacts and responsibilities related to Range Road 164—still needing clarification. It recommended proposed Animal Control Bylaw No. 2039 be brought to council, where a public hearing may be scheduled. Texas gate and traffic-sign policies were also referred to council for further discussion; no contract awards or purchasing approvals were identified.
Budget discussion included a proposed $1.3 million increase in taxation revenue, approximately 4.86%, and $285,000 in identified expense reductions. The committee passed a motion to include a one-time Chinook cardiac care contribution of $5 per capita and directed administration to obtain a cost analysis for providing water and sewer services to the Western Tractor area and Johnson’s Addition; a Town of Taber estimate of $715,000 and possible joint grant application were mentioned. A proposed $180,000 welding-truck replacement, fuel-island costs, and other capital items remained under review, and budget discussions were continued to the November Committee of the Whole meeting.
