The Marshalltown Public Library Board of Trustees met on October 20, 2026. The board approved the October bills for payment and the 2027 operating calendar, changing the December board meeting date to December 14. Staff discussed recently replaced self-check machines and ongoing technology maintenance; the library’s current internet service costs about $2,200 per year. Staff plan to apply for federal E-Rate discounts, bring an internet safety policy to the board next month, and solicit bids for internet service as part of the application process. No new internet contract or E-Rate award was approved at this meeting.

Staff reported that the interior renovation is in use, with more than 600 room bookings, and is awaiting closeout documents from contractor Garling; the project was funded by Friends and donor contributions. Proposed five-year capital improvement requests include a sidewalk, book-budget funding, tuckpointing, roof work, replacement of nine aging rooftop HVAC units, and carpeting; these were discussed as planning items, not approved expenditures. The board also approved revisions to the meeting-room policy, including a prohibition on personal social events. The Friends will fully fund the planned Imagination Library program for children in Marshall County. No contract award or specific capital-project allocation was approved.
