The Grayson County Planning Commission met on October 20, 2026, and recommended that the Board of Supervisors repeal and reenact the county’s subdivision ordinance, following a public hearing with no speakers. The proposed revisions primarily update administrative procedures to reflect Virginia law, including transferring subdivision-plat and site-plan decisions from the Planning Commission to a designated agent. The recommendation passed by roll-call vote. The commission also approved revised zoning-ordinance access language clarifying an exception for qualifying parcels created before January 9, 2014, with deeded access rights.
The commission discussed developing data-center policies and zoning regulations with assistance from the Berkeley Group. The Board of Supervisors’ direction, as described at the meeting, was to define data centers as a distinct use, require a special-use permit, and limit them to industrial zones. Potential standards—including facility size, noise, water use and discharge, power generation, setbacks, screening, and impacts on rural character—will be developed for further review; staff plans to bring draft materials back next month. Accessory dwelling unit regulations, in preparation for a state-law change effective July 1, 2027, were discussed but tabled for further consideration. No procurement awards, purchases, or spending approvals were identified.
