Nelson County Board of Education Meeting October 20, 2026

At its October 20, 2026 meeting, the Nelson County Board of Education reviewed the district’s teacher rank-change professional development program, supported by an approximately $250,000 board commitment. Staff and teachers described classroom benefits from training in early literacy, the science of reading, and responsible AI use; about 58 staff members participated. The board also discussed a preliminary transportation and attendance-zone study addressing driver shortages, route inefficiencies, and school start times. No transportation changes were approved; board members called for further analysis, family surveys, and community input before considering any proposal.

The board approved construction documents for Phase One of the Nelson County High School renovation and authorized the project to be released for bid, with bidding scheduled to begin November 10. Studio Kramer presented the project schedule and design; the documents comprise approximately 228 pages. The meeting also discussed anticipated bid reviews for New Haven and Nelson County projects, tentatively slated for November 17 and December 15, respectively. No contract award or vendor selection was made at this meeting.
