State & Local
The East Meadow UFSD SEPTA community forum, held October 26, 2026, with district administrators, focused on special education services, parent advocacy, inclusion, and student transitions. Administrators reviewed district IEP and 504-plan figures and described efforts to strengthen reading instruction, including Wilson and SPIRE programs, staff professional development, and progress monitoring. They also discussed expanding peer-inclusion initiatives, developing curriculum for students who are alternately assessed, sharing information about community and adult-transition resources, and improving parent education. The planned Clark/Reach Cafe is intended to provide career-readiness experience; administrators said they hoped to begin construction in January and target a spring soft opening, but gave no cost, contract, or procurement details.
Parents raised concerns about the school calendar and service gaps, ESY and summer regression, access to reading and other supports, inclusion across schools, and communication about special education and outside resources. Administrators said they would review the calendar and the question of attendance coding, take feedback on summer and reading services back to staff, and consider inclusion and awareness efforts through school and district character-education committees. No votes, contract awards, or other procurement actions were identified.
