At its October 20, 2026 meeting, the Jefferson County Commission approved an economic-development proposal for Daxko to consolidate its Birmingham-area operations and establish its corporate headquarters in downtown Birmingham. The company expects to create 88 jobs at an average wage of $34.96 per hour, with a stated capital investment of $1.7 million; it also described potential additional growth through hiring and backfilling. Daxko is considering space in the Gray Construction building, as its Homewood office cannot accommodate the expansion. Commissioners voted in favor of the proposal after discussing the relocation from Homewood, local hiring and internships, and a request for incentive assistance associated with the jobs; the transcript does not specify the assistance amount. Commissioners also requested that the company’s letter from Homewood’s mayor be shared with all commissioners.
The commission approved routine finance and purchasing items, including purchasing and procurement-card reports, as well as a slate of engineering agreements for roads and transportation. It also approved community-development agreement amendments concerning a street-improvement project, the Trafford storm shelter, and a home-rehabilitation contract amount correction, and renewed the sheriff’s contract with VHM Law Group for grant support. A proposed emergency effort for Brookside’s disabled fire engine was held because required paperwork was missing. The county manager reported that more than 120 miles of roads had been paved.
