The City of Culver City Cultural Affairs Commission meeting on October 20, 2026, approved a recommendation concerning Nate Moeller’s public artwork, Culver Current. By a 3–0 vote, the commission accepted the artist’s proposal for immediate repairs, equipment upgrades, and one new light-and-animation show; recommended Cultural Trust Fund support for a future deaccession plan and a possible additional 2028 show; and authorized the Public Art Subcommittee to decide whether to proceed with that show. Staff said the artist’s contract runs through 2028 with about $20,000 remaining and proposed adding $30,000 to cover deaccession planning and another show, bringing the amount just below the City Council approval threshold. The commission’s action addressed the artwork proposal and funding recommendation, not approval of the contract amendment itself.

The commission also received updates on the 2027 performing arts grant cycle: 39 applications were received, 33 were deemed eligible, and independent panelists are scoring them ahead of award recommendations in December; no awards were made at this meeting. Staff reported that the GAINs public art installation remained on schedule for completion by year-end, and that interviews were underway for a public art coordinator, with onboarding anticipated next month. No other procurement awards or purchasing decisions were identified.
