At its October 20, 2026 meeting, the Blount County Board of Commissioners approved several spending and funding actions. By unanimous votes, it approved a $21,792 justice assistance grant application for law-enforcement equipment and a $46,125 state Homeland Security grant application for EMA, both with no local match required. It approved a $1.5 million highway capital transfer for hot-mix asphalt paving (18–2), a $1,395,572.15 courthouse-roof appropriation, and $1,161,230 for the Heritage High School auditorium renovation. The courthouse-roof project received six bids; purchasing staff were still vetting the two lowest bidders, and no vendor had been selected. The commission also approved $343,400 for engineering and right-of-way work on a federally funded FLAP project, with construction bidding anticipated in about two and a half years and the project described as fully reimbursable. Other approved appropriations included $134,908 for sheriff’s training-range repairs and upgrades, $79,878.75 for CADIS training and credentialing software, and education funding for preschool ($313,170.22), tutoring ($78,060), grant rollover ($183,926.26), and a Mary Blount Elementary awning and sidewalk ($22,630).
