Walpole’s Fall 2026 Town Meeting, held October 20, 2026, approved several budget and capital measures. Articles 3 (other post-employment benefits) and 9 (revolving funds) passed on the consent agenda. Article 2 budget adjustments, Article 4 transfers to stabilization funds, and Article 5 union contracts also passed; Article 6’s supplemental water and sewer operating-budget transfers passed by a majority, with two dissenting votes. Article 7 capital requests—including equipment and vehicle purchases, replacement of an older street sweeper, and $200,000 for continued fire-station feasibility work—passed by a majority. Members discussed the fire-station project’s possible $9–13 million cost and several potential sites; no site or contractor was selected. The town administrator said $600,000 had been appropriated for earlier fire-station studies in 2024 and 2025.
Article 8, a borrowing measure for capital improvements, passed with the required two-thirds vote. It covers water-main replacements and phase-two water-meter upgrades, not a possible future MWRA emergency connection; the town administrator said the meter work was competitively priced and delaying it could require rebidding at a higher cost. A potential MWRA connection, estimated at roughly $2 million to $5.5 million depending on pump-station scope, remains under discussion and was not approved at this meeting. Separately, Congressman Lynch reported more than $5 million in federal funding previously secured for Walpole projects and $850,000 for Walpole High School’s parking and drop-off area. A member asked that recurring police capital requests for Flock/license-plate cameras be better justified; town officials said the police department was not pursuing them at this time, and no policy change was adopted. No vendor or contract award was identified.
