The Anchorage School District School Board meeting on October 20, 2026, included a major facilities and funding decision. By a 6–1 vote, the board approved Memorandum 047, transferring $3.96 million in available prior-year bond funds for demolition of the Abbott Loop facility and relinquishing management rights over the Abbott Loop site after demolition, as well as the Campbell Elementary and West Park properties. The board discussed the condition and future use of the sites, community engagement, and the district’s limited capacity. The municipality’s chief of staff confirmed that the Assembly had passed a resolution expressing its intent to provide West Park sale proceeds to the district; the municipality aimed to make funds available early in 2027, subject to timing and statutory limits on local contributions. No vendor selection or bid award was identified.
The board also discussed eighth-grade math outcomes and resource needs, including maintaining the current K–8 math curriculum and purchasing curriculum materials as needed, as well as targeted student interventions. A military representative reported coordination with ASD on emergency evacuation and shelter arrangements and a facility-condition assessment of six district schools on JBER land, which could support future modernization and construction efforts; no funding award was confirmed. The superintendent announced a departure effective February 1, and the board said it would solicit applications for an interim superintendent. Two employee groups gave notice of upcoming collective bargaining for successor agreements. The board also voted to direct its president to draft a letter urging the Assembly to reject AO 2026-130, concerning school board election districts.
