The City of Huntington Beach’s Storm Ready Community Meeting on October 23, 2026, focused on preparing for coastal flooding associated with unusually high tides, El Niño conditions, surf, and possible rain. The National Weather Service described the uncertainty around elevated sea levels and potential flooding, while city staff outlined emergency readiness, resident notification and evacuation procedures, sandbag distribution, and plans to activate emergency operations and marine-safety response teams. The city also said parking enforcement would be suspended Sunday through Wednesday to help residents move vehicles to higher ground; residents were urged to sign up for AlertOC and prepare their homes and evacuation kits.
Public Works reported completed infrastructure work, including tide-check valves at five Huntington Harbor locations, three additional inflatable bladders, replacement of a damaged high-capacity pump at Slater flood station, and replacement of concrete flood-channel panels. Staff also described ongoing maintenance and plans to build a temporary beach berm from Warner to Anderson beginning the following Monday, with repeated repairs as needed; the city had already built a berm in a vulnerable area after erosion. The marine-engineering consultant Mafetta and Nickel was mentioned in connection with the beach response. No contract awards, procurement votes, spending amounts, or new purchasing approvals were identified; the infrastructure work was described as part of capital improvement and ongoing maintenance efforts.
