The Murfreesboro Airport Commission met on October 19, 2026. The commission considered a one-year lease, with a five-year option, for a tenant to install and operate Piper Navajo and Beechcraft Baron flight simulators. The arrangement is expected to generate about $30,000 in annual revenue, increasing by 4% over the following six years. The tenant would contract with Rice Construction to modify an exterior door at an estimated cost of $21,000, with electrical work also anticipated. Commissioners raised concerns about the lease’s 90-day early-termination provision and moved to make the security deposit nonrefundable and subject to adjustment based on utility use and operating hours. The amendments must return to the City Council for approval. The commission also approved a federal grant for environmental review and initial design of a proposed airport control tower; the work is expected to be fully federally funded, with no local share at this stage. Final design, bidding, and construction funding would be pursued later.

The commission approved a Barge work authorization for administrative and inspection support on airport construction, subject to legal department approval; city engineering had reviewed the proposed prices. Staff reported continuing work on the hangar-pad and utility project, including drainage corrections and delivery of a water-quality structure, and said the existing bid accounts for site grading with no add-ons expected. Pavement rehabilitation in the T-hangar area remains on hold while the project scope is reviewed. An RPZ study is about halfway complete and will inform future runway planning. No award of a new construction contract was reported at this meeting.
