Body

State & Local
The City of Stevens Point Board of Water & Sewerage Commissioners met on October 19, 2026. Commissioners approved the PSC-recommended water and sewer rate schedule, effective January 1, along with a change from quarterly to monthly billing. The discussion described a 29% rate increase and a 45% stormwater increase to meet debt-service coverage requirements. Staff said the PSC had declined a request to spread the increases over a longer period; pursuing that request further would require a contested rate hearing. Commissioners also approved the claims presented, including a borrowing-related wire transfer whose amount was not clear in the transcript.
The board approved awarding the Well 12 building project to Ellis Construction for approximately $3.17 million, using both bid deduct options, and approved a contingency of up to the statutory 15% for eligible change orders. Completion is expected toward the end of 2027. Staff also reported that the city’s capital improvement budget was expected to go to council and that the previously bid fiber project was expected to be awarded later, but no fiber award was made at this meeting. The board received operational reports, including that recent lead and copper samples showed no elevated results.
