At the Saint Louis Public Schools Board of Education Real Estate Committee meeting on October 19, 2026, staff reported on progress under the district’s bond-funded capital improvement program, including HVAC and hazardous-material work, restrooms, elevators, security vestibules, signage, and other building upgrades. Staff said most scheduled work was completed or underway and outlined potential remaining projects, including restroom repairs and accessibility improvements. Athletic-facility upgrades, districtwide badge access, flag poles, signage, and marquees were identified as future items to put into procurement. The presentation referenced a $160 million bond, but the committee took no vote on a contract award or spending authorization. It approved the September 21 meeting minutes.

The committee also heard updates on surplus-property reuse and marketing. Staff reported 16 properties valued at approximately $14 million, substantial online interest and tours, and two vetted offers; a developer RFQ had received one response and was reopened through the end of October. The city described a proposed zoning text amendment intended to make certain residential and community-serving reuses of former schools easier, and discussed possible tax-abatement and construction-sales-tax incentives. These efforts aim to attract more redevelopment proposals; any property sale would still come before the board. No sale approval or procurement award was made at this meeting.
