The City of Webster Groves Sustainability Commission met on October 19, 2026. The commission discussed sustainability projects and funding, but no new contract awards, vendor selections, or procurement approvals were recorded. Members reviewed the current-year budget: the built-environment awareness campaign had been reduced from an initial $1,100 proposal to $500, and $100 for the Pumpkin Smash had already been approved. Members noted that grant funding had reduced the amount needed for that event; staff will clarify remaining budget balances before further allocations are considered. The commission also discussed applying for a St. Louis County Department of Public Health waste-reduction grant, potentially including a $400 Missouri Botanical Garden Green Cities Challenge application fee. Applying would require resolutions from both the commission and City Council, and a commission member would need to administer the grant. No application or resolution was approved at this meeting.
Other discussion covered upcoming yard-sign recycling and Pumpkin Smash events, including hauling and composting arrangements involving Republic Services, Waste Management, and St. Louis Composting; a possible spring electric-vehicle show; and an energy-conservation and electrification public-awareness campaign. Members discussed whether a future sustainability coordinator position would be part-time or full-time and whether a consultant might help assess existing plans, but those decisions remain open. Staff also reported that City Council was scheduled to consider adoption of the 2021 building codes the following evening. A motion was made to approve the prior meeting’s minutes, but the transcript does not capture the vote outcome.
