The Southfield City Council’s regular meeting was held October 19, 2026. The council approved a consent agenda that included an agreement with the Road Commission for Oakland County for 2026–27 winter road maintenance, a change order for the pump station renovation program, a contract for concert and event audio and lighting services, equipment relocation for the 9 Mile pathway project, and an agreement with SMART for municipal community credit service and funding for July 2026–June 2027. The consent motion carried. Council also approved the annual depository resolution and investment policy update; the treasurer said Huntington remains the city’s primary bank and that the approved bank list preserves options for competitive returns.

The council approved a five-year extension of DDK Acquisitions’ commercial rehabilitation exemption for 23800 Northwestern Highway, with the developer permitted to return after five years to request an additional two years. The presentation reported more than $2 million invested to date and a planned additional $500,000 investment. Council also considered the Specs Howard building redevelopment: the developer proposed converting the vacant 60,000-square-foot building into market-rate rental apartments and requested a five-year obsolete-property rehabilitation exemption. Public comments raised questions about housing, parking, and tax abatements; the council approved the exemption application and adopted an associated district ordinance. Residents also raised concerns about a proposed data center, Kroger’s commitments, and other city matters, but no related procurement action was identified in the transcript.
