The Town of Schererville Plan Commission held a study session on October 19, 2026. The commission discussed Lenor N. Adams Rainey’s request concerning potential rezoning of three Lincoln Highway addresses, which have since been combined into one parcel. The petitioner’s attorney said a 1946 deed restriction had not carried forward into later deeds and presented documentation indicating it was terminated in 2010. Members expressed general support for considering rezoning, subject to review of the new documentation by the town’s attorney; the petitioner was asked to return for a future public hearing, tentatively in December. No vote was taken on the rezoning request.

The commission also received an explanation of Resolution 261, which is expected to come before the town at a public meeting next month. It would remove certain parcels from the Kennedy Avenue tax increment financing (TIF) district because they no longer generate tax increment, including parcels acquired for the Kennedy Avenue project and a parcel associated with the YMCA. No procurement, contract award, or spending action was identified, and no vote on the resolution occurred at this study session.
