The MV Schools Board of Education’s October 19, 2026 monthly meeting included a presentation on a potential elementary school site in Gambier. Village and Kenyon College representatives proposed approximately 15 acres with existing utility access and discussed flexibility in site layout; the board took no action to select or acquire the property. District leaders said they and the village are pursuing a market appraisal, expected in about two weeks, and are open to negotiations, including possible property-swap discussions. Gambier’s council had unanimously authorized its representatives to engage in negotiations. The district also discussed a November 3 levy proposal: a 1% earned-income tax intended to support facilities and operations. If approved, the district aims to advance building projects at three school locations and receive nearly $26 million in state funding; the project scope was reduced by about $30 million. No levy or site decision was voted on at this meeting.

The treasurer reported that delayed tax settlements—about $11 million received on the meeting date—had required the district to draw down investments, with an estimated $228,000 in foregone investment revenue. The board approved the September financial report and listed donations, including a $650 Knox County Foundation contribution for middle-school health programs and a washing machine donation to the athletic department. Other approvals covered facility-use requests, personnel matters, and a homeschool student; no major contract award or purchasing decision was identified. The board also heard about career-readiness programming, including in-house college courses costing $41 per credit hour compared with $166 off campus, and a $1,000 union PAC contribution supporting levy advocacy.
