At the Belknap County commissioners’ meeting on October 20, 2026, the county attorney reported heavy caseloads and staffing challenges, including one existing vacancy, and requested support for two additional attorney positions. Commissioners said they would support the request as it goes before the delegation, citing workload and retention concerns; no formal vote on the positions was recorded. The finance report projected a $593,274 nursing-home deficit, partly attributed to lower Medicaid census and reimbursement, and noted a $397,371 payment from Gunstock—$32,371 above budget. The report also identified a projected $49,000 maintenance deficit, including fuel, electricity, retirement payout, and repair costs, and a $556,437 projected addition to the fund balance by year-end.
The jail requested commissioners’ support for the county signing an agreement with DHHS to provide re-entry services to sentenced inmates, including help connecting with community services. The county said the arrangement would have no cost to it; a motion supporting the agreement passed. No contract award, competitive solicitation, or other purchasing decision was identified. Commissioners also approved the October 5 meeting minutes.
