The Town of Barnstable Community Preservation Committee held its annual public hearing on October 19, 2026, to present its work and review the draft FY2027 Community Preservation Plan. The committee reported approximately $19.925 million in available CPA funding, with no debt, and reviewed past grants and appropriations for open space, recreation, historic preservation, and affordable housing. Examples included $37,500 for Jenkins Bog, $100,000 for Smith’s Creek, $250,000 for the Santuit Woodlands, and a $1.3 million Affordable Housing Trust grant for 850 Falmouth Road. No new contracts or spending awards were approved at this meeting.

Members and attendees discussed outreach to prospective applicants, increased recreation investment, and whether bonding could help advance larger projects; these were exploratory discussions, with no funding or bonding action taken. The committee reviewed updates to the draft plan, including alignment with the town’s Open Space and Recreation Plan and Housing Production Plan, and will continue consideration at its November meeting. The committee unanimously voted to close the public hearing and then adjourned. The town’s 2022 practice of referring community-housing applications to the Affordable Housing Trust was also noted.
