The Town of Barnstable Community Preservation Committee met on October 19, 2026, remotely. The committee unanimously approved two Barnstable Land Trust open-space applications. The first was a $75,000 request toward acquiring and preserving a one-acre parcel at 52 Whippoorwill Drive in Hyannis; the stated purchase price was $160,000, with remaining funds expected from private fundraising and other sources. BLT reported it had not received a $100,000 state Conservation Partnership Grant for this project and was pursuing alternative funding. The second approval was a $200,000 request toward preserving 18 acres at 2320 Meetinghouse Way in West Barnstable, adjacent to the Bridge Creek Conservation Area. The parcel’s purchase price was $500,000 and total project cost $615,750; BLT reported a $250,000 state grant award and additional grant and private fundraising support. Both approvals were by unanimous roll-call vote.
The committee also continued discussion of a possible comprehensive CPA recreation bond for playgrounds and parks, including near-term projects and longer-term coordination with Town Council on inspections and maintenance, which CPA funds cannot cover. A revised plan for the Centerville Recreation Center ball field is forthcoming. Staff are working with legal counsel on grant-agreement language addressing time limits for use of CPA funds, to be brought back to the committee. No other procurement awards or purchasing actions were identified.
