The City of Auburn, Maine, held a City Council workshop and meeting on October 19, 2026. The workshop reviewed proposed building-code ordinance changes intended to remove local requirements more restrictive than state-adopted codes, while retaining local sprinkler requirements for buildings three stories or higher or 40 feet in height. No vote was taken on those proposed changes. The Council also received a conceptual design and preliminary phasing update for the Riverwalk Trail extension, presented by the city and consultant Woodard & Curran. The project’s first phase is intended to deliver a complete, lit, paved, usable trail; later phases could add developed gathering areas, river access, and a pedestrian bridge. The bridge is beyond currently available funding, and a $200,000 contribution has been requested through the FERC licensing process for portage and boating access. The project uses existing CDS grant funding; cost estimates remain preliminary, and no construction award or procurement approval was made. Councilors raised ongoing maintenance costs and trail connectivity as issues for further planning.

At the regular meeting, the Council approved a solid-waste collection ordinance on first reading, adopted the 2026–27 General Assistance maximums, and authorized acquisition of a parcel on Poland Spring Road; no contract amounts were stated. A quarterly finance report was accepted, with revenues and expenditures described as generally on track. The Council also heard an update on the Lake Auburn watershed septic inspection program, whose inspection costs are reimbursed through funds provided by the Auburn Water District and Lewiston Water Division; discussion included potential assistance for costly septic repairs and concerns about residents paying inspection costs upfront. The airport committee reported receiving a presentation on the airport’s FY2028–32 capital improvement program and supported further discussion with both cities, but no CIP approval or spending decision was reported.
