The Wethersfield Town Council meeting on October 19, 2026, included several procurement and capital-project items. The council approved extending contract 2023-12 with Uncle Sam’s for custodial services at the Pitkin Community Center. The proposed service is seven days a week and was presented at $117,000, compared with approximately $250,000 in annual staffing costs for the existing arrangement; staff said the change would also help address maintenance needs at town and school grounds. The council also approved the town manager’s award of road-salt contracts to Morton Salt Incorporated as the primary supplier and Eastern Salt Company as the secondary supplier; prices were not stated. Separately, the council authorized an application for a state Historic Restoration Fund grant for structural and ceiling restoration at the Old Academy building. The Economic Development Improvement Commission reported that its matching facade-improvement program offers up to $50,000, and a council member cited approximately $175,000 in EDIC support for the Masonic Hall project.

Energy Systems Group presented a proposed, but not yet approved, energy performance project involving HVAC and other building upgrades and rooftop solar at the high school. The presentation estimated an investment of about $14 million, supported by a $1.3 million federal tax credit and nearly $1 million in utility incentives over 20 years; the vendor said contract approval was expected at the November 16 meeting, with construction targeted to begin early in 2027. Council members requested detailed savings figures and raised questions about roof capacity, battery storage, and emergency power. The town manager also reported that funding is in place to expand the Keeney Cultural Center parking lot by 45 spaces, to 150 total, with public input planned before the project proceeds through review.
