The City of Santa Clara Station Area Task Force meeting, titled October 15, 2026, included a Public Works presentation on the Benton–Brokaw multimodal crossing feasibility study. HMH and Forward City Labs presented eight preliminary concepts, ranging from improvements to the existing pedestrian undercrossing to new bicycle/pedestrian or all-mode crossings over or under the rail corridor. The study is funded through an MTC grant; no project cost or city funding allocation was approved. Members discussed impacts to the station-area plan, transit and bus circulation, nearby properties, historic resources, accessibility, and emerging transit technology. The consultants will gather further input and evaluate concepts before making a recommendation; the task force did not select a concept. A glideway example discussed from a separate San Jose study had an estimated cost of $130–$200 million per mile, not an estimate for this project.
The task force also reviewed draft station-area plan chapters on mobility, parks and public spaces, and utilities. Discussion included parking limits aligned with MTC’s Transit-Oriented Communities policy, a shared-parking analysis indicating a district cap of 8,000 spaces, unbundled and shared parking, public art, programming, and potential district-energy study. The consent calendar was approved, and the meeting was adjourned to November 19, 2026. No contract awards, bid approvals, vendor selections, or other procurement decisions were identified.
