Huron County Accessibility Advisory Committee (HCAAC) Meeting - October 19, 2026

The Huron County Accessibility Advisory Committee met on October 19, 2026. The committee presented its 2026 Awards of Merit for Barrier-Free Access to the Township of Howick for park, trail and recreation-space improvements; Pick a Posie for accessible store design; and Market Square Dental for improvements to its washroom and waiting area. Pick a Posie’s representative noted that C&B Construction worked on the store build; no contract award or procurement decision involving the firm was made. Lori Falner received the Sandra Thompson Memorial Accessibility Champion Award for her accessibility advocacy and committee work.

The committee approved the 2027 Annual Accessibility Plan report and recommended that the County approve the plan, post it on its website and forward it to local municipalities. It also passed a motion requesting that council transfer surplus funds to a reserve for the Access the Sled program, which staff hopes to run again in 2027; no dollar amount was stated. The committee received subcommittee reports and August 2026 financial statements for information. Members also discussed accessibility training and the importance of consulting the committee on municipal projects, including consultation required under legislation. No contract awards, tenders or specific purchasing approvals were identified.
