The Dorchester County Planning, Development, and Building Committee and County Council met on October 19, 2026. The committee unanimously deferred until no sooner than February 1, 2027, a proposed amendment to the land development standards ordinance concerning major subdivisions in the Agricultural Residential District. The public hearing is to be held in St. George, with the county to republish notice. Speakers raised concerns about property rights, growth planning, infrastructure and utility tree-trimming rules. At council, a resident also questioned a prior county land transaction involving Peacock Investments, citing a $7.6 million purchase; no action was taken on that comment.

Council unanimously approved Resolution 26-13 to establish the Festival Center redevelopment project area and authorize preparation of a redevelopment plan. It also unanimously approved Resolution 24-14, authorizing the county administrator, in consultation with county attorneys, to execute a relocation agreement with Adams Outdoor Advertising for the Highway 78 improvement project; no agreement amount was stated. First reading was given by title only to an ordinance conveying approximately 374.35 acres of county-owned land to the Dorchester County Development Corporation for industrial purposes. Two Ridgeville Residential Improvement District items were postponed to a later meeting because required signatures were not complete. The county recognized its Purchasing Services Division for a National Procurement Institute award; financial statements reported that the general fund had received 3.6% of budgeted revenue and spent 12.4% of budgeted expenditures at 17% of the fiscal year.
