The Belvidere City Council’s regular meeting on October 19, 2026, included several approved infrastructure expenditures. By unanimous votes of the nine members present, the council approved Resolution 2026-23 for $244,500 in Motor Fuel Tax funds for the Main Street Bridge expansion-joint replacement, awarded the low bid for that work to Path Construction Company, Inc. for $244,500, and approved a construction-engineering agreement with Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc. not to exceed $22,560, also funded by MFT funds. The council also approved a proposal from CES Incorporated, not to exceed $121,226 in capital funds, for construction services to complete the Allen Street Pond outlet to the river. It accepted a $750 donation from Town Homes of Cedar Village for supplies and equipment for the city’s K9 unit.

Public commenters voiced opposition to the proposed Project Hawkeye/Data Watt data center, citing concerns about farmland, water and power use, environmental effects, jobs, and the developer’s experience; the mayor stated that there was no agreement. No data-center procurement or related vote was identified. The council voted to enter executive session to discuss collective bargaining and pending, probable, or imminent litigation.
