The Somerville Municipal Job Creation and Retention Trust Board of Trustees met on October 15, 2026, to review trust finances, active workforce programs, and preparations for its 2027 funding opportunity. Staff reported approximately $2.68 million in uncommitted funds, with no further linkage payments projected in the coming years beyond a payment expected from a project nearing completion. The board voted to return $81,000 in unused job-quality/HR training funds and $30,800 in unused MassHire Metro North funds to the uncommitted balance, bringing it to approximately $2.78 million. It also approved a $1 million obligation for the 2027 request for proposals (RFP), which is expected to support activities over three years. No vendor contract awards were made. Staff noted that an extension request for the Just to Start grant was pending and that a Per Scholas item would come before the board for a vote at a future meeting.
The board continued planning the RFP and its November 19 annual public meeting. The proposed RFP will cover workforce jobs and skills training, technical assistance for small businesses on human-resources matters, and organizational capacity-building. The board discussed an open application process, two deadlines for applicant questions, and an information session; members decided not to add a letter-of-intent stage. The annual meeting will present the trust’s finances and investments and seek public feedback on workforce needs and the proposed funding categories before the RFP is finalized, with release anticipated in January. The board also approved the September 17 meeting minutes.
