Berkeley County Schools Board of Education meeting, October 19, 2026. The board approved W. Harley Miller Contractor, Inc. as the low bidder for the Hedgesville High School track facility at $899,000, within the project’s revised $1 million budget. It also approved Daikin Applied to replace two rooftop HVAC units at Musselman High School’s gymnasium for $139,110, using the TIPS cooperative purchasing contract. The board approved Mountain Ridge Primary School change orders totaling approximately $375,092; the district’s proposed share is $136,295.43, with the remaining $238,796.65 to be pursued from the contractor, architect, and engineer. The board discussed retaining funds and other remedies while the responsibility for the remaining costs is resolved.

The operations update covered capital projects in the 2026 bond program and planned School Building Authority requests, including $35 million for a workforce development center and $10 million for an addition at South Middle School; these funding requests were not acted on at this meeting. Officials also reported a prior diesel-emissions grant of $137,632 for four replacement buses and said the district had applied for another grant covering 10 buses, with results pending. The board approved personnel actions and a revised policy on virtual participation, and authorized its legal counsel to initiate litigation over school-funding issues.
