The Metropolitan Council Committee on Rules, Confirmations and Public Elections met on October 20, 2026. The committee approved two recognition resolutions on its consent agenda by a 5–0 vote. Most of the meeting involved interviews and confirmation votes for Metro boards and commissions, including the Civil Service Commission, Community Corrections Advisory Board, Metropolitan Animal Care and Control Commission, Wastewater Hearing Authority, and other bodies. Several appointments and reappointments were approved; one previously interviewed candidate’s confirmation failed on a 2–2 vote with one member not voting, and another candidate’s interview was deferred for one meeting because a questionnaire was unavailable.

Discussion touched on animal-shelter staffing and availability, possible public-private partnerships to support animal welfare and reduce pressure on the city budget, affordable housing and neighborhood planning, and wastewater discharge concerns—including potential data-center cooling-water impacts and gaps in state and federal regulations. No contracts, bids, purchases, capital-project funding, or other procurement actions were identified.
