The Town of Fairfield Fire Commission met on October 8, 2026. The Chief reported that the Board of Selectmen had approved seed funding for feasibility and location studies for a fire department maintenance shop, while improvements to Station 4 were deferred. The department has begun gathering proposed projects and equipment needs for the FY2028 budget. Two marine units are under construction, and Station 3 sustained basement flooding during recent storms; the department and DPW are considering measures to reduce future water intrusion. The Deputy Chief also described staffing concerns and noted that the firefighters’ labor agreement runs from 2025 to 2029, with an additional position planned for Station 3 in July 2028.

The Commission unanimously approved the fire marshal’s fee schedule, which establishes fees for inspections and related services and may be revisited later. It also voted to accept donations, including $10,000 earmarked for EMS and EMS training and a separate $20 donation. The Chief reported that recent flooding generated an SBA disaster declaration process offering eligible residents, businesses, and nonprofits low-interest loans; FEMA assessment remained a possible next step. The meeting also covered emergency response, mutual aid, and fire station impacts. No specific contract award or procurement dollar amount for the maintenance-shop studies or marine units was stated.
