The City of Sacramento Preservation Commission met on November 15, 2023. The commission approved the landmark nomination of North Sacramento School, at 670 Dixie Avenue, for the Sacramento Register of Historic and Cultural Resources. Staff cited the 1915 building’s Mission Revival architecture, its association with North Sacramento’s development, and three Sacramento-area architects; staff also reported 41 letters of support and no objections. Commissioners heard community comments supporting preservation and possible future community uses. No purchase, construction contract, or funding amount was approved for the property.

The commission also approved a recommendation to the Planning and Preservation Commission Committee to forward the 2023 annual report to City Council for approval. In the director’s report, staff said an RFP had been issued for a consultant on an LGBTQ+ historic-preservation grant project, attracting five proposals; a review committee was formed, with consultant selection targeted for December 1. The grant amount and any eventual contract value were not stated. Staff also discussed outreach for the proposed Iller Homes Historic District and preservation oversight for an adaptive-reuse hotel project at the former cola bottling plant; no procurement action was taken on that project.
