The Walpole Finance Committee met on October 15, 2026, and held a public hearing on town meeting articles, including discussion of a proposed East Walpole fire station. A resident questioned the proposed 12,500-square-foot, three-bay facility, its estimated cost of $9.25 million to $12.3 million, and whether renovating the existing station could be an alternative. Town officials said the proposal remains at an early study stage, with architecture and engineering design estimated at roughly 10% of the project cost (about $1 million at the stated range); the estimate is not described as a locked-in price. The project would require further site and conservation review and additional town meeting approvals. Officials said they are examining other possible sites, including a Route 1 property listed for $1.25 million that they do not expect to work. No construction contract, site purchase, or project funding was approved at this meeting.

The committee closed the public hearing, approved the August 31 minutes as amended, and discussed a forthcoming consent agenda covering roughly six or seven articles, mostly focused on capital matters. No other procurement decision or spending action was identified; the fire station discussion remained exploratory, with a joint Select Board–Conservation Commission meeting expected in November to address the site.
