Wangenheim Middle School - Award of Merit Presentation

At a San Diego Unified School District meeting on October 15, 2026, educators and students from Wangenheim Middle School presented their California Civic Learning Award of Merit, a statewide recognition of the school’s civic education work. Teacher Jennifer Slezak described classroom activities including a historical mock trial, student debate, civic reflection, and a courthouse visit, emphasizing critical thinking, student voice, and engagement with democratic institutions. Students shared how these experiences developed their interest in civics and confidence in expressing their views.
