The Salem High School Building Committee met remotely on October 15, 2026. Members approved the July 23 meeting minutes by roll-call vote; no September 24 minutes were available because that meeting lacked a quorum. The committee reviewed the project schedule, including design development, permitting, and subcontractor prequalification ahead of an early enabling-work bid package expected to go out in February 2027. The package is planned to include site and paving work, selective demolition, athletic-field improvements, and a new auxiliary automotive building and related site facilities. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2027, with the auxiliary building targeted for completion by winter break, subject to procurement and lead times. The committee discussed describing the facility as an auxiliary rather than temporary building to preserve eligibility for a $3.875 million grant. A detailed cost estimate and an MSBA submission are planned for early 2027; the project team said the design will be brought within budget before submission.
The finance working group reported approving invoices totaling $1,049,622.67: $16,177.50 for Answer Advisory, $1,017,887.17 for Perkins and Will, and $15,558 for Shawmut. The design team also reported energy modeling at a projected EUI of 20.7 with a 15% energy contingency, and discussed unresolved equipment choices for the culinary program. No new contract award or procurement vote by the full committee was reported.
