The City of Beaumont Historic Landmark Commission met on October 12, 2026. The commission unanimously denied PZ-2026-241, a request by JN Custom Homes LLC on behalf of Sandy Modica for a 12-foot-wide circular driveway at 2395 Long Street. Staff recommended denial because the ordinance discourages front-yard parking, and commissioners also noted the proposed entrance’s proximity to the street corner. The commission unanimously approved PZ-2026-283, a certificate of demolition for a dilapidated accessory building at 2345 Rush Street; City Council had already declared the structure a public nuisance and issued a razing order.
The commission also unanimously approved a certificate of appropriateness for a rear addition at 2220 North Street to create an ADA-intended bedroom and bathroom. During discussion, a commissioner raised concerns that the submitted plan’s clearances did not appear to meet accessibility requirements; the applicant said the VA had approved the plans and the homeowner had accepted waivers for certain noncompliant features. No contracts, purchases, budget allocations, or other procurement activity were identified. Staff said September’s historic district code-enforcement figures would be provided at the next meeting.
